In honor of Women’s History Month, on March 18, 2021, YWCA Brooklyn partnered with Citizens Bank to provide a special financial career exploration and banking education program called Investing in Girls of Color. Over 20 girls from our YW Brooklyn LEAD program participated, learning about the college-to-career pathways of Ruby Chambliss, Senior Vice President & CRE Portfolio Manager, Kathy Lemieux, Branch Manager, and Sharana Worsley, VP, Market Manager & CRA Officer for Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Citizens Bank’s Gamal Alsalahi, Branch Manager, also engaged the YW Brooklyn LEADers in a financial literacy workshop, providing an introduction to the different types of accounts available, as well as how to manage their money. At the end of the Investing in Girls of Color program, Citizens Bank generously donated $50 to each girl who participated to manage in their own bank accounts using the knowledge they gained from Citizens employees.

The girls who participated in the program gained a rich understanding of potential career pathways in the finance industry and what they can do to become more financially literate and enhance their future savings, reflecting a highly successful program and a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
