MARTHA KAMBER
Martha Kamber has been the Chief Executive Officer and President of YWCA Brooklyn for nearly 20 years where she built over 300 permanent affordable homes for women impacted by gender-based violence, homelessness and poverty, as well as a new Social Justice Community Center dedicated to gender equity and racial justice. Martha also led the development of the organization’s college access, immigrant services, economic empowerment, wellness and trauma-informed community programs. She is a recognized leader for racial justice and gender equality advocacy.
Martha has over 35 years of nonprofit management experience and has worked extensively in the areas of women’s empowerment, gender-based violence prevention, affordable housing, public health, education and advocacy. She holds advanced certificates in executive nonprofit leadership from the Harvard Business School and Columbia University, as well as a master’s degree in education from Brooklyn College. Martha serves on the Boards of the National Association of YWCA Executives, the YWCA World Service Council, the Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District, and The Road to 120: Education Equity for Young Women. She is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the 2018 Public Service Award from the Brooklyn Borough President and the Shirley Chisholm Woman of Distinction Award from the New York City Council. Martha lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn where she is active in various neighborhood initiatives.
