YWCA BROOKLYN UNIVERSITY

YWCA BK U

YWCA Brooklyn University is an all-day program offering college bound high school senior young women “the real” on all aspects of college life. The program launch is on March 25, 2017.

This workshop is designed to provide information that young women may not get from campus tours or college websites. Topics for discussion include: diversity on campus; resident life; time and money management; social groups; campus safety; and more.

Admitted students will have the opportunity to socialize with and gain valuable information from young alumni from diverse institutions while forming meaningful relationships with other college bound peers. All participants will have applied to a four year institution and may or may not have already decided where they will enroll.

Micaella Duncan, a Queens native, has gained a comprehensive knowledge of marketing, advertising, brand/artist management and event planning during her time studying at Howard University. While engaging in her studies, Micaella was able to intern at EventsDC, Bad Boy Entertainment/The Blue Flame Agency, Atlantic Records, Roc Nation Records where she worked under the direct supervision of Sean Combs, Sean Carter, Frank Ocean and more. It was Micaella’s passion for music that pushed her into the entertainment industry. However, during her time attending school and interning Micaella noticed the need for assisting other young intellectuals on ways to enter and maintain a successful career in the entertainment industry. Thus, she created “The Intern” Podcast where entertainment executives that have built the careers of some of the most notable artist come and speaks about their journey, and ways you can do the same. Micaella is currently working at The TEKNIQUE Agency as an Account Executive and Social Media Director while obtaining her Master’s Degree in Corporate Communications at Baruch College. Terry-Ann is a freshman at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. She lives in Brooklyn and is currently dorming at the CCNY Towers. Her major is biomedical education and she is studying to become a healthcare professional, specifically a doctor.

Her transition to college could not have been done without a huge support system (e.g. her personal Sophie Davis advisor, her mentor at Bottom Line, and the support she received from the YWCA Brooklyn Lead program).
