Annual Appeal 2016

Dear Friends,

It’s not too late to make your year-end contribution to the YWCA Brooklyn! If you’ve already made a donation or attended one of our recent fundraising events we sincerely thank you for your generous support.

For over 125 years, YWCA Brooklyn has worked to level the playing field for women, girls and people of color. Your support enables us to continue our work as prominent advocates for racial justice and gender equity, and to expand the reach of our programs that empower low-income women and girls in Brooklyn to reach their full potential.

YWCA Brooklyn’s vital community programs include college access for girls; safe, affordable, permanent housing for 300 low-income and formerly homeless women; and the YWCA Brooklyn’s Social Justice Community Center which offers a full-range of services for women and girls of all ages, including health and wellness, financial literacy, leadership, racial justice, violence prevention, and therapeutic initiatives for trauma survivors. Our Community Center is also home to myriad grassroots nonprofits, civic and community groups, all of whom benefit from free and YWCA Brooklyn subsidized office, meeting, program and event space. There were over 20,000 visits to the Community Center last year.

This is what program participants are saying about the YWCA Brooklyn:

“I didn’t think I’d have the opportunity to go to college. YWCA Brooklyn provided support, academic tutoring, and helped me navigate the college application process. I graduated salutatorian of my class and received a full-scholarship to medical school. YWCA Brooklyn believed in me and helped me reach my full potential.”

“After working with disabled children for over 30 years, I never imagined I would find myself with nowhere to go. Living at YWCA Brooklyn, that’s the brightest light that ever shined for me because it gave me the opportunity to see that there are people who really care.”

We hope you will consider making a year-end contribution to support the important work of the YWCA Brooklyn – no amount is too small. Thank you again if you have already contributed!

Warmest regards,
