YWCA Brooklyn in partnership with NY Liberty Panel on Mass Incarceration

The New York Liberty officially kicked off this season’s UNITY Game initiatives with the panel: “Forgotten Behind Bars: Women’s Health Care, Family, and Representation” at YWCA Brooklyn to address how the criminal justice system unjustly affects women, society’s role in marginalizing female prisoners and solutions for change.

Panelists, including YWCA Brooklyn CEO Martha Kamber, discussed the impact of mass incarceration for women and children. We praise the commitment and support of the NY Liberty team to help bring to light these pressing social justice issues.

The NY Liberty team has collaborated with YWCA Brooklyn previously, inviting the YWLEADers to meet one-on-one with team members to engage in discussions about their goals and aspirations following a private team practice. YWCA Brooklyn thanks NY Liberty legend Teresa Weatherspoon for this opportunity and continued partnership with the women’s team.

Earlier this month, YWCA Brooklyn Board Chair Sondra Ford hosted our YWLEADers at her annual BBQ to celebrate their accomplishments before they head back to school in the fall. They were also able to watch the NY Liberty game together, where the video of their collaboration with the team was aired.
