Engaging with the Community at Atlantic Antic

This year marked the 41st gathering of local businesses on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn for the Atlantic Antic street festival. The YWCA of Brooklyn happily participated in this great community event again this year and set up an informational table on the corner of Atlantic and Third Avenue.  Volunteers and YWCA staff engaged with festival-goers about the wide variety of services available at the YWCA of Brooklyn. Atlantic Antic served as a way to inform a broad group of Brooklynites of the permanent housing units located at the YWCA of Brooklyn available to low income women or women otherwise in transition, and also of the many events and classes offered in a designated community space that are completely free and open to anyone in the community. Of particular interest among festival-goer’s were the selection of fitness classes like Cardio Sculpt and Zumba, and a brand new Women’s Drum Circle class lead by Grace Drums.

The festival also provided a unique opportunity to meet new faces interested in the mission of the YWCA and offer individuals and groups the chance to sign up as volunteers.
