Young Women’s Advisory Council Throws a Different Kind of Housewarming

Sign-In-Edited

The Young Women’s Advisory Council of the YWCA of Brooklyn proudly hosted its second annual happy hour fundraiser event, A Different Kind of Housewarming, on Monday June 22, 2015. Attendees of this event were asked to bring a typical housewarming gift, or to utilize the on-site iPad gift registry to purchase housewares that would go towards furnishing the affordable housing units located at the YWCA of Brooklyn.

The YWCA of Brooklyn is the largest provider of affordable housing in downtown Brooklyn, with nearly 300 units. This affordable housing program is a lifeline for low-income and homeless women, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as seniors.

The Young Women’s Advisory Council is comprised of young professionals dedicated to furthering the mission of the YWCA; eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. A Different Kind of Housewarming is the Advisory Council’s signature event, and one of the ways the group works to support the YWCA housing facilities and the many women in transition that reside there. The event was attended by many friends of the YWCA of Brooklyn, and received donations and dozens of housewarming gifts that will be put to good use within the resident housing units.

Special thank you goes out to Black Forest Brooklyn for generously providing the space and a portion of all food and drink proceeds from the night, and to all of those that came out to support the cause.
