The YWCA of Brooklyn Board of Directors hosted a Tennis Tournament Benefit at Prospect Park Tennis Center on October 4th. The proceeds from the benefit will support the YWCA of Brooklyn’s year-round programming including housing for low-income women and community services including senior fitness and yoga, women’s health, economic empowerment, domestic violence prevention and support for the LGBTQ community.
Despite an earlier forecast of rain, the weather was perfect for outdoor play. The round robins doubles tournament event was organized by YWCA board members including Betty Lawrence, who is a team captain and spearheaded the event. It was also facilitated by Prospect Park tennis pro Jeff Amurao. Twenty-four players competed, and a group of YWCA board, staff, friends and family members cheered from the sidelines. Tennis pro Nadia Lysak led a serving clinic for the tournament players between rounds.
The benefit was a smashing success, and we hope the tournament will become an annual event!
